LC STATE WORKFORCE TRAINING PHLEBOTOMY
In this intensive course you will be instructed in everything you need to know to work as a phlebotomist. In the classroom you will learn the basics of anatomy and physiology of the vascular system, how to draw blood specimens using venipuncture, capillary puncture, and the proper preparation and handling of specimens for clinical laboratory testing. In addition, you will receive instruction on medical ethics and legal issues.
This course consists of 40 hours of classroom instruction which includes: basic anatomy and physiology of the vascular system, venipuncture, medical ethics, legal issues and more. You will also complete 100 hours of hands-on training at a variety of clinical locations at times arranged by your instructor. Attendance is mandatory.
Heartsaver CPR/AED is a requirement for this course and is provided to you at no additional cost.
***This course includes 36 lab hours, 45 online hours, 100 clinical hours and 4 CPR training hours. This course, with clinicals, will be complete on June 2, 2021.***
Students are strongly encouraged to have personal healthcare insurance while participating in this class as health insurance is not provided by LCSC. Certain immunizations are required before students are allowed to participate in the clinical settings. You are required to pass a background check and drug screen.
Upon successful completion of this program, you are eligible to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology national examination (not included in the course). (Must be 18 and have your high school diploma or equivalent).
BLOOD CENTER FOUNDATION OF THE INLAND NORTHWEST SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility Requirements: The applicant must intend to enroll in the Lewis-Clark State College Phlebotomy course and plan to work in the field of Phlebotomy. Scholarship recipients will be required to observe at a Vitalant location for one day to learn about blood banking and transfusion medicine.
Awards: Awards may be distributed in part or in full to one or more students. Funds will be sent directly to LCSC.
Applications for spring 2021 are due on January 4, 2021. Awards will be made by January 15, 2021. Students must register in the class that begins in February 2021.
