LC STATE WORKFORCE TRAINING PHLEBOTOMY
In this intensive course you will be instructed in everything you need to know to work as a phlebotomist. In the classroom you will learn the basics of anatomy and physiology of the vascular system, how to draw blood specimens using venipuncture, capillary puncture, and the proper preparation and handling of specimens for clinical laboratory testing. In addition, you will receive instruction on medical ethics and legal issues.
This course consists of 54 hours of classroom instruction which includes: basic anatomy and physiology of the vascular system, venipuncture, medical ethics, legal issues and more. You will also complete 100 hours of hands-on training at a variety of clinical locations at times arranged by your instructor. Attendance is mandatory.
Heartsaver CPR/AED is a requirement for this course and is provided to you at no additional cost.
Students are strongly encouraged to have personal healthcare insurance while participating in this class as health insurance is not provided by LCSC. Certain immunizations are required before students are allowed to participate in the clinical settings. You are required to pass a background check and drug screen.
Upon successful completion of this program, you are eligible to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology national examination (not included in the course). (Must be 18 and have your high school diploma or equivalent).
Scholarships from the Inland Northwest Blood Center are due on August 7 at 4 p.m.
